This is not to say Dexter is never manipulative, but I believe that Harry further traumatized Dexter by preventing him from being properly evaluated psychologically (which kept him from getting treatment), by encouraging Dexter's interests in death, and by verbally abusing him with terms like "monster." He also desires for others to like him, and he even admits in therapy that he is afraid Rita would not love him if she knew the real him. Dexter is often found protecting his children even after Rita dies when it no longer benefits in any way. Like saving Trinity's family or going after the pedo who was checking for Astor.
A 'perfect' psychopath like Trinity doesn't care about this, especially when it does not directly affect his life.ĭexter goes out of his way to help others, even when helping conflicts with his own desires and agenda. He clearly describes the aversion to harming children and a firm dislike for those who harm children.

They have clear differences in reactions as well as social interactions. His brother, Brian, was a 'perfect' psychopath. Harry killed himself when he realized what he turned Dexter into.ĭexter is not a psychopath he's a high-functioning autistic. Vogel took an autistic child with PTSD and a fixation on death and made him into a murderer to fit their own preconceived notions.
